Recently, AidsMap.com published an interesting article noting the connection between Hep E in HIV positive individuals and the development of scarring which may lead to Cirrhosis in some cases.

“Chronic HEV…can lead to cirrhosis within less than three years,” comment the authors. “In the setting of immunosuppressed HIV-infected patients with chronic hepatitis E, progression to cirrhosis may be even faster than that observed in HBV [hepatitis B virus] or HCV [hepatitis C virus]/HIV coinfection.”
